Director, Regional Manager NSW
Mark has advised leading corporations on how to embed sustainability into their operations, adding shareholder and stakeholder value. He specialises in the finance, resources and infrastructure sectors and consults on sustainability strategy, governance and performance management systems, climate change risk adaptation, sustainable procurement and change management. Prior to Net Balance, Mark was the national leader of Evans & Peck’s Sustainability & Climate Services and a partner of Ecos Corporation for 11 years. He is a pioneer in assisting financial institutions integrate sustainability into their core business operations (lending, investing, underwriting and asset management).
Director of Research and Development, Net Balance Research Institute
Les joined Net Balance with the launch of the Net Balance Research Institute. Before joining Net Balance, Les worked for the Centre of Social Impact (CSI) as the Director of Research since December 2009 and has spent the past twenty years undertaking a range of major initiatives to develop the evidence base for third sector research, policy and practice both in Australia and the UK. Les oversaw CSI’s portfolio of academic and applied research, social impact measurement and knowledge exchange activities. Les was responsible for CSI’s research on impact investing and social finance including assessing the feasibility of implementing social impact bonds in New South Wales and the actions needed to create a capital market for social investment in Australia.
Alan, a co-founder of the Sydney office in early 2008, has over fifteen years’ experience in the financial and advisory services with core experience in performance measurement and management reporting, operational risk frameworks and strategic improvement initiatives. Prior to Net Balance, he worked in KPMG’s Risk Advisory Services practice for seven years as well as PricewaterhouseCoopers and Westpac. Alan has considerable international consulting experience, particularly in the European market and holds two Bachelor’s degrees in Business Finance/Tax Law) and Science (Environmental Biology/Horticulture). He is also trained in ISO14064 (Greenhouse Gas Inventory Development and Verification), ISO26000 (Guidance on Social Responsibility), SROI (Social Return on Investment) and is an Accredited NABERS Assessor.
Simon is responsible for compliance audit activities, including National Climate Change and Energy Reports, NSW Energy Savings Scheme, Victorian Energy Efficiency Targets and Carbon Farming Initiative project audits. He leads the compliance team and works with carboNZero in the delivery of its carbon neutral services in Australia. Simon has over eighteen years’ experience as an engineering manager in electric power distribution, twelve years’ experience as senior auditor, Principal Engineer and Country Manager for DNV Certification and three years developing project management software for the global carbon project market. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), a Master of Business Administration and is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
Julian works in a senior advisory capacity on projects, particularly those with a strategic and futures focus. His valuable experience and access to networks are used to develop new client and project opportunities for Net Balance. Julian has experience working across all sectors and in particular with private sector clients, federal, state and local government agencies and peak industry bodies, to identify emerging opportunities. Julian has over fifteen years’ experience in the sustainability field in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. Julian was one of the founders of EcoSTEPS, a sustainability strategy and training consultancy and has been a Director of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals since 2009 and is currently President.
Emily leads our Social Impact practice in Sydney, focusing on corporate community investment strategy and social impact measurement. With over twelve years’ experience working with organisations to integrate sustainability into their core operations, Emily’s expertise also includes livability research and frameworks, sustainability strategy and reporting, and human rights assessments. Prior to Net Balance she worked in London for Business in the Community, and managed the Corporate Responsibility Index for St James Ethics Centre in Sydney. Emily has an MBA from INSEAD, a Master’s degree in Professional Ethics (University of NSW) and an Honours degree in Psychology (University of Sydney).
Guy’s key areas of focus are within Infrastructure for the Strategy & Reporting service line and Supply Chain. He has extensive experience working across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in Australia, Europe and the United States, providing strategic direction in sustainability formation and delivery, resource efficiency, and the delivery of effective and efficient services and monitoring. He is an Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP) and has experience in BREAM and LEED environmental assessments for buildings, and has practicable knowledge of applying the ISCA IS Rating Tool, TfNSW SD Guidelines, Green Roads and CEEQUAL sustainability assessments to infrastructure projects. Guy holds and BA (Double Hons) In Environmental Management and Politics, and a LLB in Law.
Jamie leads the Energy Efficiency service team, specifically working with building infrastructure to reduce energy consumption and related emissions. He has fifteen years’ experience in the engineering field and over five years’ experience in energy and carbon. Jamie has worked in many different countries including the UK, Europe, USA, Asia and the Middle East. Prior to Net Balance, Jamie spent almost eleven years in the Royal Australian Navy and four years as the energy and carbon manager for one of the world’s largest law firms, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP.
Lynette is part of the Climate Change and Energy team and has over fifteen years' consulting experience in environmental impact assessment, sustainability, carbon, energy and auditing. Prior to Net Balance, Lynette worked as a Senior Environmental Scientist for Environmental Resources Management where she was responsible for managing numerous large infrastructure impact assessment projects. She has a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours and a Doctor of Philosophy in Inorganic Chemistry as well as a Master’s degree in Biotechnology.
Melinda leads the Reserach Institute service line and has ten years’ experience in helping governments and the corporate sector improve their sustainability performance. Melinda has deep knowledge and experience in sustainability strategy development, stakeholder engagement and sustainability reporting. Prior to Net Balance, Melinda worked for Sydney Water and the Department of Primary Industries, Victoria advising government, industry and community groups in strategies to achieve environmental, economic and social outcomes. Melinda holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Hons), majoring in natural resource management and has published a number of papers on policy decision making. Melinda is currently completing a PhD in Creating Shared Value.
Monique leads the Strategy and Reporting service line and specialises in corporate sustainability strategy, the development and communication of sustainability benchmarks and credentials, and supply chain management from a whole-of-life perspective. She has advised clients globally on the risks and opportunities that evolving legislation and voluntary standards present to businesses and their supply chains. Prior to joining Net Balance, Monique worked with numerous organisations to determine and develop sustainability credentials for their goods and services for formal Eco labelling accreditation, market claims, internal stakeholder engagement and process improvement. She holds a BSc in Environmental Management from the University of Auckland and an MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford.
Dhakshy has five years consulting experience in social and environmental sustainability, corporate community investment strategy and climate change adaptation. Working within the Social Impact team, she provides technical advice and project delivery across the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. Prior to joining Net Balance, Dhakshy was the Program Manager for the partnership between Samsung and a leading Australian not-for-profit, the Foundation for Young Australians. Her experience also includes working in Fiji as a Project Officer for the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). Dhakshy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Arts from the University of Melbourne and a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact from Melbourne Business School.
Erica supports our Environment service line, focusing on Waste and Resource Efficiency, and also works across our Research, Strategy and Supply Chain service lines. Hailing from Auckland, Erica is the key point of contact for our New Zealand-based clients. Her experience includes environmental engineering and consulting for both the government and private sectors to address broader sustainability issues. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Arts (Art History) from the University of Auckland and is currently working towards a Master of Sustainable Futures through the University of Technology, Sydney.
Natasha works on a a wide variety of sustainability, reporting, assurance and environment projects for clients, however her time is also spread working for projects under the Environment, Assurance and Supply Chain service areas. She works specifically with private sector clients and peak industry bodies to assist them in their transition towards sustainability. Prior to Net Balance, Natasha worked as an Outreach Officer at Greenpeace India, a role which saw her actively engage with organisations on environmental issues such sustainable agriculture, climate change and energy efficiency. She holds a Bachelor in Mass Media with a specialisation in Journalism from Mumbai University and a Masters in Environment and Sustainability.
Sophie works mainly in the Social Impact team, however is also involved in various other projects across the business, including within the Strategy and Reporting line. She has six years’ experience working in the corporate sector in the fields of social and environmental sustainability, community investment, strategic risk management and safety. Prior to joining Net Balance, Sophie was the Sustainability lead for the Swire Group in Australia where she was responsible for developing and implementing their community engagement strategy; developing and implementing a strategic risk management programme across the group; overseeing compliance with NGER and EEO legislation; chairing and coordinating the Safety Champions group; and the roll out of a host of ad hoc social and environmental sustainability projects and programs. Sophie holds a Bachelor of Science (Geography) from the University of Sydney, graduating with first class honours and has completed a thesis on Microfinance in Pacific Island countries.
CitySwitch Program Manager, National Accounts
Christina joined the Net Balance Foundation in 2013 as part of the national roll-out of the City Switch Green Office program. Prior to joining Net Balance, Christina worked as an Environmental Sustainability Manager at Stockland Property Group. She has worked closely with both office and retail tenants advising them on how to create more sustainable tenancies through energy and water efficiency upgrades, reductions in waste and use of sustainable materials and furniture. Christina has a Bachelor of Science in Resource and Environmental Management as well as a Masters in Sustainable Design. She is an accredited NABERS Assessor and a Green Star Accredited Professional.
Luke works primarily in Net Balance’s Research Institute, but also works with the Strategy, Implementation and Reporting business. Prior to Net Balance, Luke has experience working with not-for-profits and social enterprises as a social impact consultant. Luke has also tutored corporate strategy, financial analysis and strategic decision making at a postgraduate level for the University of Sydney Business School. Luke holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Economy & International Relations) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Sydney Business School
Monica works primarily in the Climate Change and Energy team, but is also actively involved in the Strategy and Reporting, Social Impact and Assurance service lines. Prior to Net Balance, Monica gained hands-on technical skills in Environmental Biotechnology and Microbiology whilst completing a research scholarship at the University of NSW. She also held a position in marketing of the Faculty of Science programs offered at UNSW, including student support services and university life to prospective undergraduate students. Monica holds a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies.
Nadae works mainly within the Social Impact service team however also is engaged with the Climate Change, Energy, Strategy & Reporting and Environment teams. One of her internal projects is to undertake Net Balance’s Human Rights due diligence as part of our commitment to the United Nations Global Compact’s Ten Principles around Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption. Prior to Net Balance, Nadae worked as an Environmental, Energy and Carbon Consultant for Golder Associates and as a Carbon Analyst at Climate Friendly. She holds a Master of Engineering from Centrale Lyon, France and a Master of Environmental Management from the University of NSW.
Marketing & Communications Manager
Nicole has over ten years’ experience working in marketing across many different industries. Her experience includes developing marketing strategy, collateral and website content, writing internal and external communications and project managing campaigns and events. Nicole gained invaluable experience working for large professional services organisations including Deloitte and PwC however enjoys working for a smaller organisation where she can harness her skills across all areas of marketing. She holds a Marketing Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree from NSW University in Sociology and Science & Technology.
Bookkeeper, Business Support
Susan Forbes joined Net Balance in July 2010 as company bookkeeper. Susan has over ten years’ professional experience in the industry. Prior to joining Net Balance, Susan was a contract bookkeeper and prior to that was living in Sydney working as Assistant Accountant for a publicly listed company.
